Top Up Swimming 2024

This years Top Up Swimming programme will take place between Monday 3rd June and Friday 28th June at Nantwich Outdoor Pool. Below are letters with all the information for the Crewe and the Nantwich/Shavington based schools. If you have pupils in year 6 who need to attend these sessions please fill in the Year 6 Non Swimmer Registration Form and email it to Chris Hughes (hughesc@ruskin.cheshire.sch.uk) by Friday 3rd May.

Due to the limited time in the pool and the number of pupils each instructor can have in their sessions there is a maximum number of pupils we can take on the Top Up programme. In previous years we have been oversubscribed and I envisage this happening again due to the Covid impact on pupils. Places will therefore be given on a first come first served basis.

All details will be sent to participating schools by 10th May to allow them to organise transport to the pool.

Schools have all been given their requested heats but please check the information below to ensure you are attending the correct heat.

Below are all the documents you will need for the events including information letter, team sheets, running orders and rules for each event.

School Games Mark 2021-22

With the evolution of the School Games gathering at a pace, we have taken the opportunity to review School Games Mark to ensure it still fit for purpose. It remains central that School Games Mark is a development tool that needs to help schools to effectively reflect on their engagement in the School Games and to also reflect on the difference that they are making for those young people that need to be physically active the most. We want this to be a clear and simple review tool that aids schools to make some informed decisions and allow School Games Organisers (SGOs) to get a better understanding of the schools that they work with needs.

Based on feedback from the network of schools and SGOs we have looked to reinstate and refresh the levels of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum for 2021/22 enabling those schools that want the stretch to do so whilst supporting all schools to benchmark their provision against a nationally recognised set of criteria.

The outcomes of School Games Mark and the School Games are entwined. Schools will need to demonstrate how they are/have;

  1. Maintaining and growing their school’s engagement in the School Games and their delivery of 60 active minutes for every child
  2. Creating positive experiences to ensure physical activity and competition provision is designed to reflect the motivation, competence and confidence of their young people and has a clear intent
  3. A clear focus on particular transition points (Yr.3 and Yr.7/8 as well as those in 3 tier systems) and how secondary schools are engaging in the School Games
  4. Create positive experiences that support the character development of their young people
  5. Advocated to key stakeholders how the School Games makes a meaningful difference to the lives of children and young people, including engaging and educating their parents

The application window will open on 4th May 2022 until 27th July 2022 and the School Games Mark document, detailing the criteria for each of the levels, is available to download below.

Commonwealth Games Birmingham 2022- Queens Baton Relay

Birmingham 2022 will stage the 16th official Queen’s Baton Relay – an epic journey across the Commonwealth, with The Queen’s Baton visiting all 72 nations and territories, reaching Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, the Caribbean and the Americas.

The Relay will begin in October 2021, once Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has placed her message to the Commonwealth into the Baton.

The Baton will then travel for 294 days, connecting communities in every corner of the Commonwealth, embracing unique cultures and sharing stories.

Printable educational resources have been developed to bring the celebration of the Queen’s Baton Relay into schools. There are three different resource packs aimed at Reception, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, which provide learning opportunities to be explored in the classroom and extend to home learning. They will develop children’s understanding of the Queen’s Baton Relay, focus on the messages of solidarity, hope and community and improve understanding of the Commonwealth through cross-curricular activities. The activities will also develop transferable skills in communication, confidence building, presentation, research and more.

All 3 resources are available to download below-
